Activité orale: Points communs

Hello everyone!

I thought an activity that I did with my combined Grade 11 / Grade 12 Core French class today worked really, really well.  Students had to speak to every other member of the class and find two things they had in common.  They could discuss things like their favourite movie, favourite TV show, favourite food, sports, music…The sky was the limit!  I used the activity Points Communs for a few reasons:

a) to get the grade 11 students and the grade 12 students speaking to one another.  I want them to feel comfortable with each other and especially for the grade 11s not to feel intimdated by the grade 12s

b) to get them into the habit of speaking to each other in French

c) to get them to take risks

d) to get them to write in French

I was so proud of them.  They made such an effort to speak in French.  This activity was great in that they had to find two points they had in common, which meant that they had to keep asking each other questions until they did, so it really got them thinking about the different types of questions they could ask.  I was also so happy to see that the grade 11s and grade 12s were talking to each other.  The wall between the classes that evidently existed yesterday came down today!  I know that my work is not done in that area.  I plan to chisel away at it day by day…

I hope you try this activity with one of your senior classes.  I highly recommend it!  5 stars all the way…

Tomorrow’s warm-up: Smartboard activities for passé composé

I’ll let you know how it goes!
